We sat down with her to learn more about the inspiration behind In The Attic Designs Boutique and what makes it so special.




Q&A with Amanda, Owner of In The Attic Designs Boutique


Q: What inspired you to start your business?


Amanda: My mother-in-law and I have always loved fashion, so we started out online for a while. Eventually, we decided to open a physical location because we wanted to bring our passion for fashion to the community.


Q: How long have you been in business, and what has been your biggest milestone so far?


Amanda: For two years, and our biggest milestone, I think would be the whole storefront. That was huge for us. Going from online to storefront is totally different.


Q: What is the main mission or philosophy behind your business?


Amanda: We just want to make sure, you know, that everyone feels welcome and that every woman feels included and, confident.


Q: What are your most popular products and why do you think they stand out?


Amanda: Our most popular item is bralettes because they are so comfortable, but clothing in general really draws people in.


Q: Do you offer any products/services that are unique to your business or not commonly found elsewhere?


Amanda: Absolutely! The clothing we offer is unique; you won't find these styles at places like Walmart or TJ Maxx.


Q: How do you decide on the products or services you offer?


Amanda: Deciding on which products to carry has definitely become easier after being here for almost a year. I’ve learned what people like, which helps us a lot in our selections. We strive to offer something for everyone, considering different age groups and styles. For instance, we think about what teenagers would like versus what might appeal to an older audience.


Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as a business owner, and how have you overcome them?


Amanda: One of the biggest challenges I've faced as a business owner has been building my confidence. It can be tough to sell things because I don’t want to come across as pushy. Overcoming that has taken time—just being here for a while has helped a lot, and we’re getting the word out more. I think that experience has really made a difference.


Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of owning and operating this business?


Amand: Honestly, the most rewarding aspect has been the people. It’s the people that make it very rewarding. It’s wonderful to connect with everyone, and I haven’t had a single negative experience with customers. Everyone is so nice and friendly; it’s amazing!


Q: What do you want customers to feel when they visit your business?


Amanda: I want customers to feel confident, excited, and welcomed when they visit. Feeling welcomed is especially important to me because I’ve been to places where I didn’t feel that way, and it’s not a fun experience. I always strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.


Q: Do you have any stories of memorable customer interactions that stand out?


Amanda: One memorable interaction was with a young girl and her mom. The mom told me how they had gone to a big store, like TJ Maxx, and some other girls there had judged and made fun of her daughter for trying on clothes that didn’t fit quite right. It made her feel terrible. So, they came to my shop, and her mom asked if we could find something for her. The girl ended up finding five or six pieces she loved, and her face just lit up! She was so happy. She was in middle school, which is already such a tough age for girls, and it just broke my heart to hear how she had been treated. I told her, 'You’re beautiful, don’t let anyone tell you differently.' Moments like that really stand out.


Q: What are your goals for the future of your business?


Amanda: Our primary goal is to grow. We want to expand our reach and connect with even more people outside of where we are now, while continuing to serve everyone.


Q: Are there any upcoming changes, products, or events you’re excited about?


Amanda: We just hosted a hat bar party, and it was amazing! I think we’re also going to do Galentine’s Night again for Valentine’s Day, along with some exciting plans for Christmas.


Q: What’s something people might not know about your business?


Amanda: One thing that people might not know about our boutique is that we are size inclusive. I think many don’t realize that we carry sizes up to 3X. I’ve even had someone express hesitation about coming in because they were used to small through large boutiques. I’m so glad she decided to visit!


Q: What’s your favorite part of running this business?


Amanda: I mean, obviously, it’s the fashion! (laughs) But I think the biggest reward is being able to fill a need and help people. It’s so fulfilling and just makes you feel good when you see others feeling good about themselves!


Q: What do you love most about being a part of the Knob Noster community?


Amanda: What I love most about being a part of the Knob Noster community is the support we’ve received. It really means a lot to know that people have our backs and are willing to help us spread the word and get our name out there.
