Business Spotlight Q&A: Drew’s Bike Shop – A Bike Shop in Knob Noster

Updated: Aug 26

We’re thrilled to welcome Drew’s Bike Shop to downtown Knob Noster! More than just a place to fix your bike, Drew’s is built on heart, hospitality, and a deep love for all things cycling. From tuning up barn bikes to collaborating with local favorites for community events, Drew is all about connection, adventure, and helping Knob Noster roll forward—one ride at a time.

Whether he’s bringing an old bike back to life or popping a wheelie down Main Street, he’s doing it with joy, purpose, and what he calls “face-melting hospitality.” In this Q&A, Drew shares the story behind the shop, what makes it special, and how you can ride along.

Q: What inspired you to start your business?

A: I was inspired to start Drew's Bike Shop by the love of Jesus. What better way to display love than through hospitality and that through a bike shop. Bicycling has influenced my life from riding back and forth to school in junior high. I loved the adventure and challenge of cycling so I carried that into racing and training on a junior team where we earned sponsorship from a local bike club. My teammates and I raced up and down California, Oregon and Arizona. I learned to fix my own bike while riding all of the time as a teenager. I eventually enlisted in the United States Air Force. During my time in the Air Force I dreamed of opening a bike shop but life got in the way. After I left the Air Force the opportunity presented itself and here we are today enjoying service to the community through cycling.

Q: How long have you been in business, and what has been your biggest milestone so far?

A: I started repairing bicycles from my garage in June 2023. In March we purchased the current location of the shop and we had our grand opening in August 2024. So far the biggest milestone has been getting tons of support from friends and the local community to renovate an old real estate office into a bike shop.

Q: What is the main mission or philosophy behind your business?

A: Our mission is to sell the products we love, provide incredible hospitality to our customers and change the world and the city of Knob Noster by getting more people on bikes!

Q: How does your business contribute to the local community?

A: Drew's Bike Shop is involved with multiple businesses downtown to include Coffee Sknobs and Lost Art Tap Room to unite the community by putting on bicycling events, fundraisers for bike racks around downtown, and other events. This all contributes to the community by enriching lives through cycling and bringing the town back to life by adding to an already dynamic and beautiful group of individuals and businesses.

Q: What are your most popular products/services and why do you think they stand out?

A: At Drew's Bike Shop our most popular product is bicycles and tuning them up. We are able to bring your bike back to life if it has been sitting in the barn or shed and get you moving again. These things make us stand out for the obvious reason that we are the only bike shop in town, but more so because we are doing it with a focus on hospitality.

Q: Do you offer any products/services that are unique to your business or not commonly found elsewhere?

A: Drew's offers service on any bicycle, tricycle or quadcycle that can be found. We also provide maintenance on any electric bike which is rare for a bike shop to work on all styles and brands of bike. Some bike shops are more selective regarding what they will work on but Drew's works on all bicycles and bicycle variants.

Q: How do you decide on the products or services you offer?

A: We choose our products and services carefully and strive to sell only products we love. We will service anything!

Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as a business owner, and how have you overcome them?

A: My biggest challenge so far is running a business. I know bikes and how to fix them, but the business part is new. I rely on friends and family who have experience with running a business. I also have a great support system with Trek Bikes who is all about the local bike shop and helping lead and guide us toward success.

Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of owning and operating this business?

A: The most rewarding aspect of owning and operating the bike shop is interacting with people. I love meeting all of the people that come into the shop. Each person has a unique story and I love to hear all about them. Fixing bikes is the cherry on top but relationships last forever.

Q: How do you support other local businesses or the community at large?

A: We support other local businesses by frequenting their establishment to utilize their products and services. We collaborate with businesses like Coffee Sknobs and Lost Art Taproom to organize events and fundraisers that benefit the city of Knob Noster. We enjoy working with the T-Shirt Shop to create unique merchandise offerings for the bike shop as well. We purchased a lot of material from Ace Hardware to renovate the shop. We are networking within the community to support and encourage cycling and togetherness on Whiteman AFB and off.

Q: Do you have any partnerships or collaborations with other local businesses?

A: Yes, we collaborate with Coffee Sknobs and Lost Art Taproom to organize events and fundraisers. The Taproom also made a beer in honor of the bike shop called, "Shred the Gnar" and they called it a, "bike shop stout" the first ever of its kind.

Q: What do you want customers to feel when they visit your business?

A: We want our customers to experience face melting hospitality when they come to the bike shop.

Q: Do you have any stories of memorable customer interactions that stand out?

A: One memorable customer interaction came while helping a Marine veteran find the right bike for him. As we conversed about our military experiences we realized we both were stationed in Okinawa, Japan. We discussed for several hours our time overseas and the good and bad times we had. It was a truly stimulating conversation

.

Q: What are your goals for the future of your business?

A: Our goal for the future of Drew's Bike Shop is to become more involved with the community through weekly bike rides, and collaborations with local businesses. We look forward to becoming established and involved in the community in every way possible.

Q: Are there any upcoming changes, products, or events you’re excited about?

A: We are excited that the Spirit Trail is now finished, connecting Knob Noster to Warrensburg through a safe and exciting trail for bikes and pedestrians. We plan to utilize this trail to its maximum extent.

Q: What do you love most about being a part of the Knob Noster community?

A: We love getting to know all of the people in Knob Noster and even though it is a small town there are so many people to meet, it's not as small as it seems.
