Our latest Business Highlight features Love Events by Jen, a planning and design company built around creativity, heart, and service. For more than a decade, Jen has been helping couples, families, and organizations turn their visions into unforgettable moments. Her journey as a business owner is deeply tied to her love of weddings, her dedication to community, and her passion for supporting others. Looking ahead, Jen is excited about expanding her services with a storefront and one day opening her own venue. She kindly shared her story through a Q&A, giving us a closer look at the heart behind her business.
Q: What inspired you to start your business?
A: Growing up I always loved watching movies about love and weddings. After shadowing a wedding planner, I knew this was for me.
Q: How long have you been in business, and what has been your biggest milestone so far?
A: I started Love Events by Jen in 2014 and it will be 11 years old this year.
Q: What is the main mission or philosophy behind your business?
A: Memorable experiences through creative planning!
Q: How does your business contribute to the local community?
A: I am all about community and getting involved. You will find me helping with PTO events, school events, planning and designing school dances, and volunteering to help at community events downtown. I am a wedding & event planner, but my heart will always be to serve and help others.
Q: What are your most popular products/services and why do you think they stand out?
A: I've found in the wedding industry, there is a need for day-of coordinators and less actual planning. My services are planning, designing, organizing, executing the vision, and making sure the wedding or event is perfect. As for events, I am asked to help design and set up the event, no need to actually run it.
Q: Do you offer any products/services that are unique to your business or not commonly found elsewhere?
A: I like to design custom packages for my clients. Every wedding and every event is so unique and has a different price point. I always tell my clients that I am here to create your dream day with you, and most importantly, your budget, in mind.
Q: How do you decide on the products or services you offer?
A: Working in this industry, it's all about educating yourself. Staying on top of the latest trends, evolving with the times, and listening to your clients. I want to make sure I offer exactly what the client needs, keeping their budgeting mind.
Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as a business owner, and how have you overcome them?
A: My biggest challenges would be being a military spouse and owing my own business. Each move requires me to move my business where there are new demographics. Every place we have moved has a different wedding industry vibe. It feels like you are starting from the ground up each time. I will say, moving to Missouri has been good for my business and our family. My biggest challenge is creating the new relationships within the industry and getting my name out there.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of owning and operating this business?
A: The most rewarding aspect of owning my own business is that I am still able to be a mom and wife. I can create this business around my home life. Having the best support from my husband and family has made this journey so wonderful.
Q: How do you support other local businesses or the community at large?
A: I am a team player. I love to see others succeed and love asking, "how can I help". As a small business owner, having that support and community is huge. Since joining the Chamber of Commerce and becoming the VP [now President], I have been involved with our town, and I hope to be a positive asset to our community.
Q: Do you have any partnerships or collaborations with other local businesses?
A: I am all for networking. If I see a florist, photographer, venue, or any business that would fit in my line of work, I would be all about connecting and recommending to others.
Q: Do you have any stories of memorable customer interactions that stand out?
A: Honestly, there are too many to write down. I will say, that after a long wedding day, my favorite part is hearing from my couples that it was the best day of their lives. All the hugs and appreciation for making their day better is what keeps me going. It's those sweet small moments that mean the world to me.
Q: What are your goals for the future of your business?
A: My goal has always been to open my own venue and work as the lead coordinator. To achieve that goal, I am looking at opening a small storefront where I can offer not only my services, but also rental products.
Q: Are there any upcoming changes, products, or events you’re excited about?
A: I'm just excited for a full packed wedding season this year and celebrating all my amazing couples and clients.
Q: What’s something people might not know about your business?
A: People tend to think I am just a wedding planner, but I love to throw a good party. Whether it's birthday parties, anniversary parties, bridal showers, baby showers, or graduation parties, I am your girl. Life is meant to be enjoyed and celebrated!
Q: What’s your favorite part of running this business?
A: My favorite part is creating new relationships and learning from each event and wedding I do. Life is about growth, and it's also true in business. If you aren't growing in your business, you might want to change what you are doing.
Q: What do you love most about being a part of the Knob Noster community?
A: I absolutely love the Knob Noster community. We may be small in size, but we are strong and united. There is so much future potential, and my family is honored to be a part of such a great community.
